Central South African Railways

The Central South African Railways ( CSAR) were a short-lived railway company in today's South Africa and one of the previous tracks of the later South African Railways.

History

During the Second Boer War, the railways conquered the South African Republic ( NZASM and PPR ) and the Orange Free State ( OVGS ) were provided as Imperial Military Railways ( IMR) under military command. The Superintendence had a native Canada as Lieutenant Colonel Sir Percy Girouard, who had previously directed the railways already in Sudan. After the war, in 1902, were obtained from the IMR, the Central South African Railways, said conduit at Percy Girouard remained.

In the eight years of its existence, the railway developed to complement the commitments that the previous tracks locomotives six of its own models of engine, including two in South Africa comparatively rare Pacific classes, a Mallet articulated locomotive, the largest South African tank locomotive and a rack locomotive.

After the founding of the Union of South Africa in 1910, the CSAR were merged together with the Cape Government Railways ( CGR) and the Natal Government Railways (NGR ), the South African Railways (SAR ) emerged.
