Central State Museum of Kazakhstan

The Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Russian Центральный Государственный музей Казахстана, English Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan ) is a museum in the Kazakh city of Almaty. The museum was founded in 1931 and has more than 300,000 different exhibits, the oldest and largest museum of Kazakhstan and one of the largest museums in Central Asia.

Description

The Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan is located in the center of Almaty near the town hall and the square of the republic. On a total area of 17,557 square meters, more than 300,000 exhibits are exhibited on three floors. In the four large exhibition spaces, the history of Kazakhstan from the beginning of life on Earth is presented up to the present time.

The museum's collection includes the areas of paleontology, archeology, ethnography, written documents and a collection of 80,000 photographs.

History

The history of the museum dates back to the 1830s, when they were exhibited collections in Russia's Orenburg. The former museum was the Museum of the Orenburg region, which was organized by the Nepliuevskii Military Academy. One of the organizers was Vladimir Ivanovich Dal, the author of the most comprehensive dictionary of the Russian language.

1931, the museum was the building of the Ascension Cathedral, which was already closed before opened. The present museum building in the Furmanov Street was purchased in 1985.
