Centre for European Policy Studies

The Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS ) is a European think tank based in Brussels, Belgium. It was founded in 1983 and deals with the issues, challenges and solutions in European politics.

Organization

Director of CEPS is the German economist Daniel Gros.

Karel Lannoo shall perform the duties of the Chief Executive Officer ( CEO).

One of the main objectives of the CEPS is to develop solutions to the challenges and problems in European politics. The exchange of information and knowledge between research and policy is one of the concerns. For this, the CEPS is also available in different research networks, such as the European Network of Economic Policy Research Institutes ( ENEPRI ) active.

Financing

CEPS is funded from a variety of sources, and this is necessary to guarantee CEPS ' independence. 2009 CEPS had approximately € 6.7 million income. Part of this amount is attributable to the increasing number of EU treaties, the CEPS coordinated in recent years. Income from CEPS ' own research grew steadily in the past few years. 27% of CEPS ' income comes from membership dues, especially of larger commercial enterprises. The rest of the profit is generated through various projects:

  • 36% of project contracts, the CEPS be awarded, announced by EU institutions and national governments ( on the basis of competition),
  • 22 % of private organizations and
  • 8% of foundations.
  • 7% by organizing events.
