Centre of Social Democrats

The Centre of démocrates sociaux (literally, the center of the social democrats ) was a French political party. She collected 1976 the Christian Democrats, who had not joined the Gaullist after the collapse of the Mouvement populaire républicain 1962. So they combined the Centre démocrate by Jean Lecanuet with the Centre Démocratie et Progres of Jacques Duhamel. The center- oriented party was pro-European and influenced by Catholic social teaching.

Back in 1978, joined the CDS at the Alliance Union pour la démocratie française (UDF). One of the Allies was in addition to the liberals and radicals of the Parti social démocrate, who had split from the Socialists. CDS and the PSD formed in 1995, the party démocrate Force.

Last Chairman of the CDS was François Bayrou, who later became chairman of the UDF and démocrate since 2007 the Mouvement.
