Centre Party (Israel)

Mifleget ha - Merkas (Hebrew מפלגת המרכז, party of the center ) was a political party in Israel.

History

The party was founded on 23 February 1999 by Yitzhak Mordechai, Hagai Meirom, David stomach, Dan Meridor, Nissim Zvili, Eli'ezer Amnon Lipkin - Sandberg and Schachak. The goal was to provide a basis for a moderate coalition, either with the rights under Binyamin Netanyahu's Likud or the left under Ehud Barak's Avodah. In the 1999 elections the party won 5 % of the vote and six seats. The party participated in the government coalition in part, consisting of the parties, Shas, National Religious Party, Jisra'el ba - Aliya, Meretz Jachad and Jisra'el agate. Mordechai was appointed Minister of Transport, Lipkin - Shahak while was Minister of Tourism. However, after Mordechai resigned from the party, the collapse of the same, so that they no longer contested the 2003 election began.
