Cercado Province (Oruro)

Cercado is a province in the northeastern part of the Oruro Department in the South American Andes State of Bolivia.

Location

The Cercado province is one of sixteen provinces in the Oruro Department. It lies between 17 ° 22 'and 18 ° 35' south latitude and between 66 ° 21 ' and 67 ° 20 ' west longitude.

It is bounded on the northwest by the province Tomas Barrón, at the La Paz Department, and the province Nor Carangas, on the southwest by the province Saucarí, on the southeast by the provincial Poopó and to the provincial Pantalà Dalence, and to the east and north by the Departamento Cochabamba.

The province extends from north to south and 135 kilometers from east to west about 105 km.

The most important idiom of the province is Spanish, which is spoken by 96.7 percent of the population, Quechua ( 43.3 percent) and Aymara ( 25.5 percent).

39.4 percent of the population are younger than 15 years old.

18.6 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 67.5 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

16.3 percent of the working population is employed in agriculture, 1.8 percent in mining, 11.9 percent in industry, 70.0 percent in the service sector ( 2001).

83.0 percent of the population are Catholics, 13.5 percent are Protestant (1992).

  • Municipio Oruro - 217 198 inhabitants
