Cercy-la-Tour

Cercy -la-Tour is a commune with 1936 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Nièvre in the Burgundy region. It belongs to the district Vitry -le- François and Château- Chinon ( Ville). The town lies on the river Aron, at the confluence of its right tributary Canne and left tributary Alène. In addition, the Ship Canal Nivernais Canal, which here runs parallel to Aron, the local area traversed.

History

In Gallo -Roman times Cercy was the oppidum Cerciacum with four still detectable access points, the

  • The Porte d' Aron at the upper end of the Rue d' Aron
  • The Porte de Coulonges, opposed, at the lower end of Rue Pasteur.
  • The Porte de Bourgogne at the intersection of Rue Louis Albert Morlon and Rue des Vignes.
  • The Porte de Paris at the intersection of Rue de Bourgogne with the Rue Saint Vallier.

Between 1790 and 1794 the neighboring town Codde was incorporated. 1801 City of Cercy -sur- Aron by Cercy -la-Tour has been renamed.

The community Cercy -la-Tour is now in Canton, the most important church.
