Ceredigion

Ceredigion (Welsh Sir Ceredigion ) is a Principal Area in the west of Wales. Council is based in Aberaeron, Aberystwyth is the largest city.

In Lampeter a part of the distributed over the entire part of the country University of Wales is located. An early major port was the city of Cardigan in the south of the district.

Cardiganshire

Largely coextensive with Ceredigion is the traditional county of Cardiganshire. It is in the south by the River Teifi, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, on the west by the Irish Sea, bounded on the east by Brecknockshire, Radnorshire and Montgomeryshire and in the north by Merionethshire. The historical capital is Cardigan. 1961 had 53 564 inhabitants in Cardiganshire 1793 km ².

By 1974, Cardiganshire was an administrative county and then became the District of the newly formed county of Ceredigion Dyfed. Since the administrative reform of 1996 Ceredigion is a Principal Area. Ceredigion has the status of a County.
