Cermignano

Cermignano is a municipality with 1750 inhabitants and is located near Penna Sant'Andrea and Cellino Attanasio in the Italian province of Teramo. The town is a member of the Comunità Montana del Vomano, Fino e Piomba.

Geography

Among the districts ( fractions) are Montegualtieri, Poggio delle Rose and Santa Maria.

Borders the following municipalities: Bisenti, Canzano, Castel Castagna, Castell Alto, Cellino Attanasio, Penna Sant'Andrea and Teramo.

The municipality is situated approximately 19 km from the capital of the province, the city of Teramo and 25 km from the Adriatic coast.

History

The origins of the community extend to pre-Roman times. By the Sabines a fortified colony was established. In the Middle Ages, several churches and the tower La Torre di Montegualtieri were built in the village.
