The Cerro Armazones is a 3064 meter high mountain in the Chilean Atacama desert. On the mountain, among other things, the hexapod telescope mounted.

Also, the European Extremely Large Telescope (E -ELT ) with a primary mirror 39.3 meters in diameter - consisting of 798 hexagonal mirror elements - to be installed there.

The mountain is particularly suitable because it has 350 cloudless nights a year for astronomy.

Within sight, about 20 km as the crow flies, the Cerro Paranal is the Paranal Observatory of the European Southern Observatory.
