The Cerro Gordo County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 44 151 inhabitants and a population density of 30 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mason City.
Geography
The County is located in northern Iowa, is about 180 kilometers west of the Mississippi River and in the north about 30 miles from Minnesota away. It has an area of 1,490 square kilometers, of which 18 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered by the following counties:

History
The Cerro Gordo County was formed in 1851 and named after a battle in the Mexican-American War, in which General Winfield Scott Mexican General Santa Ana defeated on 18 April 1847.
1851, the first white settlers arrived in the area of today's County and settled on Clear Lake. Four years later, on 7 August 1855, the first elections were held and the first court hearing took place in 1857. In the summer of the same year was elected to the new Livonia district capital.
In 1858, he was moved back to Mason City back seat. 1866 the first courthouse was built of stone for 600 USD, which was used until 1900. The courthouse still in use was put into operation on 17 November 1960 and extended by a first attachment for the sheriff's office and 2000 by further cultivation for prisoners in 1999.
