Geography

Location

It lies in the east of the country, bordering the departments Rivera, Tacuarembó, Durazno and Treinta y Tres and to Brazil.

Landscape

The hills Cuchilla Grande crosses the department and divides the catchment area of ​​the Río Negro in the northwest of the department from the catchment area of ​​the Laguna Merín in the southeast.
