Cervens

Cervens is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Cervens is located on 614 m above sea level. M., 10 km south-southwest of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located in the Bas -Chablais, in the headwaters of Ruisseau de la Gurnaz, at the northern foot of the Alps in the area of the pass crossing the Col de Cou.

The area of ​​6.36 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Bas -Chablais and the adjacent foothills. The northern part of the municipality area taken on by a slightly sloping plateau to the north of the Bas -Chablais, which is drained to Lake Geneva by the Ruisseau de la Gurnaz and the Ruisseau du Redon north. To the south and southeast of the communal land extends over an initially gentle, later steep slope down to the wooded crest of the Cret Vernay ( 1220 m above sea level. M. ). In the southwest of the Pointe de Targaillan the Col de Cou is 1230 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Cervens.

To Cervens include the hamlet settlements Terrotet (605 m above sea level. M. ) and Pessinges ( 624 m above sea level. M. ) at the foot of Cret Vernay. Neighboring communities of Cervens are Perrignier in the north, Draillant in the east, Habère- Poche to the south and Fessy and Lully in the West.

History

The place name is probably derived from Cervens from the Gallo-Roman personal name cervinus.

Population

With 1119 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Cervens one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous strong growth of population was recorded. Outside the village proper core resulted in several single-family house neighborhoods.

Economy and infrastructure

Cervens was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Many working population commuters going about their work in the larger towns in the environment or in Thonon -les- Bains.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from Perrignier on the connecting road D903, which runs from Saint- Cergues directly to Thonon -les- Bains. Further road links exist with Draillant and Lully.
