Cesare Bonizzi

Brother Cesare Bonizzi OFM Cap ( born 1946 in Offanengo in the province of Cremona, Lombardy ) is an Italian monk of the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin, who became known as a singer and especially in recent years as a heavy metal singer. He is also known as Frate Cesare and Fratello Metallo ( "Brother Metal" ), the latter is also the name of his band.

Life

Cesare Bonizzi was born in 1946 in Offanengo in Italy. In 1975 he joined the Capuchins and went to the monastery. He worked as a missionary in the Ivory Coast. After his return in 1983 he was ordained a priest. Since 1990 Bonizzi makes music that he considered mainly as a means for the purpose of contemplation and spiritual reflection. He uses a wide variety of musical styles from New Age to rock music.

After attending a concert of American band Metallica took his passion for metal to express themselves musically. In his own words Metal is for him " the most energetic, lively, deepest and truest musical language that I know ." With Misteri he took in 2008 under the name Fratello Metallo his first heavy metal album. Cesare Bonizzi lives in the convent of Musocco, a district of Milan.

Music

Bonizzi took a series of albums from different genres on, but was only through his music Mysteries from 2008 as well as his performance as opening act at the Italian Gods of Metal Festival, the largest rock festival in the country, internationally known. He himself is Metallica and Megadeth as the main inspiration of his interpretation of Heavy Metal, which he describes as Metrock ( fusion of metal and rock ). Bonizzi occurs at concerts in full habit.

In the metal scene, the gesture of devil horns, a raised fist with index finger and little finger is sometimes used in Italy as Mano cornuta a much widespread superstitious as sometimes obscene gesture. Bonizzi other hand, uses the hand sign for I love you American Sign Language, which is different from the Mano cornuta by the outstretched thumb.
