Cesare Maccari

Cesare Maccari ( born May 9, 1840 in Siena, † April 17, 1919 in Rome) was an Italian painter and sculptor.

Life

His parents were Giuseppe Maccari and Carolina Mannucci. He attended the Collegio Tolomei in Siena, among others, Amos Cassioli. Cesare Maccari was under Tito Sarrocchi student of the " Institute of Fine Arts " ( Istituto di belle arti di Siena) in Siena. Under his guidance, he worked with him at the Monumento a Giuseppe Pianigiani in the Basilica di San Domenico. Besides painting Maccari also worked for some time as a sculptor. Later he worked in Florence in the studio of Luigi Mussini and copied there in 1864 on behalf of an English company which works by Pinturicchio in Siena Cathedral.

Acquired one of the first, which works by Maccari, was the Marquis Ferdinando Pieri - Nerli. The Marquis not only bought Rebekah at the well, the gifts of Eleazar receiving, but committed him to decorate the chapel of his villa in Quinciano ( district from Monteroni ) with frescoes of the four evangelists. 1865 Maccari work Mona Lisa, by Leonardo da Vinci paint leaving with a price is excellent. At the Accademia di San Luca in Rome Maccari worked a long time as a lecturer. He died on 17 April 1919 and was placed in the cemetery Campo Verano to rest.
