Cessna 150

The Cessna 150 is a popular two-seat, strutted high-wing monoplane with tricycle landing gear of the aircraft manufacturer Cessna, which was developed specifically for training.

History

The Cessna 150 was developed in 1957 as a successor to the Cessna 140. The first series still had a straight vertical tail and no remote trunk back, which they had no rear window. Most copies are driven by a Continental O -200 motor, 100 horsepower (75 kW) has performance. 216 built by Reims Aviation in France Cessna 150 have a Rolls -Royce Continental O -240 engine ( the last number is the displacement in cubic inches to, in this case about 3.9 l capacity ) with 130 hp (97 kW).

In 1966, a gepfeiltes rudder was used, which extended the machine by 68.5 cm. Although this shape deteriorated the flight characteristics slightly, it was retained because of customer requests.

In 1977 the model 150 was replaced by the externally similar Cessna 152. This received the favorable operating Lycoming O -235 engine with 110 hp (82 kw). The flaps can be extended only until 30 instead of 40 degrees. The final Cessna 152 was manufactured in 1985.

A total of 7584 Cessna were 152 and 23,949 (of which 1 079 150 Aerobat ) Cessna 150 produced worldwide (in the U.S., France and Argentina), of which about 75 % are still in use.

Since the end of 2007 (first flight in 2008, in 2009), provides the manufacturer with the Cessna 162 Skycatcher back to a light two - seater. The drive still serves the best O -200 engine. However, the takeoff weight is lower, and the outer dimensions are more compact than in the well-known C- 152. The instrumentation was adapted to the present time and has developed a glass cockpit with flat panel house equipment Garmin especially for these small aircraft.

Use

The aircraft is very often used because of its low operating costs and good-natured flying characteristics as training aircraft or Erfliegen the minimum hours for the license receipt. There is also an aerobatic version ( Aerobatic ) and a Commuterversion with better equipment and clad wheels.

The engine power is 100 hp Cessna 150, Cessna 152 of the 110 hp. The French built Cessna 150 Aerobat has 130hp with the Continental O -240 engine. The maximum take-off mass is 760 kg, and can be lowered to 750 kilograms, which is why the Cessna 150 /2 as VLA ( Very Light Aircraft) must fly into Germany with the PPL -N.

Meanwhile, the very expensive air-cooled aircraft engines can be replaced by a modern water-cooled gear motor company Bombardier -Rotax after conversion. Since the Rotax engine is lighter than the other engines must be secured from CG reasons, the engine further forward and the hull be extended, what one Cessna 150/2 very easy to identify as such modified in this way.

After the engines have been designed for leaded aviation fuel, which was replaced in Europe in part by Mogas, also unexpected problems such as engine valve plug, charring or overheating accumulate.

The Cessna 150/152 is a proven aircraft for decades, generations of pilots have thus completed their first flight. The application possibilities in the private (non- school) operation are limited - by the lack of engine power, the pilot is a C150 highly dependent on weather and wind conditions. The achievable flight services are now surpassed by a plurality of closed ultralight aircraft that also consume less than the C152.
