CFB Borden

The Canadian Forces Base Borden (CFB Borden ) is an Air Force training and education center in Ontario Canada. The site is considered to be the birthplace of the Royal Canadian Air Force ( RCAF ). CFB Borden is the largest training center of the Canadian Forces in Canada. The site is operated by the Canadian Forces Support Training Group ( CFSTG ) and the Canadian Defence Academy in Kingston assumed.

History

At the climax of the First World War, the Borden Military Camp west of Berrie, Ontario was opened in 1916. At the base were the should learn how to use military equipment initially trained soldiers. In 1917 this was extended to an airfield and thus the training center of the Royal Canadian Air Force and was accordingly renamed RCAF Station Borden. In 1938, an enlargement of the base to a tank unit to settle there.

During the Second World War, the base has grown into one of the most important educational and training centers in Canada, which was used by the Army and of the Air Force and was operating under the Commonwealth Air Training Plan. The base served as a training center for pilots of the Royal Norwegian Air Force (Norwegian Air Force ) who were trained here.

On February 1, 1968, the restructuring of the Canadian Forces took place. The two site facilities Camp Borden and RCAF Station Borden were regrouped and merged under the name Canadian Forces Base Borden.

Presence

In August 2010, the Canadian Ministry of Defence announced that the base of 209 million is to be upgraded and modernized Canadian dollars.
