CFB Valcartier

Canadian Forces Base Valcartier (French Base des Forces canadiennes Valcartier ) is a Canadian military base of the Canadian Army. The base is located about 25 km north of Quebec City in the province of Quebec. On the 5th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Base Group is stationed.

History

CFB Valcartier was originally built as a military training camp in 1914. Since 1968 was the headquarters of the 5th Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group for the restructuring of the armed forces Valcartier.

Units

Overall, the staff comprises about 3,000 soldiers and a fleet of 700 vehicles that are stationed on the one part on the base to another part in surrounding smaller sites. The following entities / organizations are stationed in Valcartier:

  • Headquarters and Signals Squadron (Quartier général et de escadron transmissions )
  • 5e Régiment d' artillery légère du Canada
  • 12e Régiment blind du Canada (12 RBC)
  • 5 Combat Engineer Regiment (5e Régiment du genie de combat )
  • 1st Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment
  • 2nd Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment
  • 3rd Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment
  • 5 Military Police Platoon ( 5e Peloton de police militaire )
  • 5 Field Ambulance (5e Ambulance de campagne )

The base also houses 430 Tactical Helicopter Squadron, 5 Service Battalion ( for ASU Saint- Jean and CFB Montreal ), CI SQFT (Land Force Quebec Area Training Centre) as training facilities for most stationed in Quebec reservists, as well as the Myriam Bédard Biathlon Training Centre, one of the two national biathlon training centers in Canada.

On the base is a research center of the Defence Research and Development Canada ( DRDC ) for information technology and weapons systems.
