CFM International

CFM International is a joint venture company based in Paris, which was founded in 1974 in equal parts by the two Snecma and General Electric. Together, the turbofan engine CFM56 was developed a commercially successful jet engine commercial aviation. It depends, among other things in the Boeing 737, the Airbus A320 family and the A340 used.

The abbreviation CFM is not an acronym, but a composite of the names of the existing families of engines General Electric CF6 and Snecma M56. This choice of name should make the airlines a priori confidence in the new engine.

2008 CFM began (later renamed LEAP ), which will drive the Comac C919 and the Airbus A320neo from 2016 with the new development of the LEAP -X.

Boeing 737 will equip the next generation of Boeing instead of 56 CFM LEAP engines.
