Chacao Channel bridge

The suspension bridge Puente Bicentenario de Chiloé was the project of a large suspension bridge in the south of Chile.

You should connect the Chilean island of Chiloé to the mainland. In 2005, the German Hochtief AG was awarded the contract for construction. Construction should be the year 2007 and planned end of construction in 2012. The building would consist of three pylons and the third longest suspension bridge in the world will be after its completion.

The bridge would have been a new section of the legendary Pan-American Highway. You would have bridged the channel of Chacao and the city Chacao connected to Chiloé with the city Pargua on the mainland.

With accession to the throne of the new President Michelle Bachelet, the project of a review was undertaken and discontinued due to high costs.
