Chacoan pygmy opossum

The Chaco opossum ( Chacodelphys formosa ) is a mammal of the family of opossums ( Didelphidae ). From the way only one copy is known, which was found in 1920 in the Argentine province of Formosa.

Description

With a body length of 68 mm and a tail length of 55 millimeters, the Chaco opossum is the smallest known opossum. From other species it differs inter alia through the elongated third finger of the front legs and a strikingly short tail.

Habitat

Their habitat is the Chaco region in southern South America.

Threat

About the threat level is not known, but maybe it's more common than the so far only suggests Fund.

System

In the first description the species was as Marmosa formosa first in the genre of dwarf opossums ( Marmosa ) filed, later it was regarded merely as a synonym of Gracilinanus agilis. Voss et al. built in 2004, finally, the new genus Chacodelphys for this Article
