Chad Dawson

Chad Dawson ( born July 13, 1982 in Hartsville, South Carolina) is an American professional boxer and former world champion of the WBC, IBF and IBO light heavyweight.

Amateur

Born in South Carolina Dawson grew up in Connecticut. The tall southpaw had a 67-13 amateur record and was founded in 2000, American junior champion at middleweight. At the Junior World Championships the same year in Budapest, he won a bronze medal in the middleweight division. With a bye for the first round, he was equal to entered in the second round, where he defeated Beibut Schumenow prematurely and so moved into the quarter-finals. However, his opponent Mohamed dortiger Akli Amari turned out not to fight ( Walkover ), which he entered automatically into the semifinals. There he finally succumbed to the Cubans Sullivan Barrera on points.

Professional career

In 2001, he joined 19 -year-old in the professional camp. He boxed on career start in the middle and super middleweight against average structure opponents. A fight in March 2003, which he originally won on points, was not considered because he failed doping test. Against the middleweight Willie Lee he was on the ground. In October 2004, he defeated former WBA middleweight title holder in the light middleweight Carl Daniels by knockout.

From 2005 he punched only at super middleweight, where he managed a knockout over the respected Ian Gardner and since 2006 only in the light heavyweight division.

In 2006 he defeated in this weight class Eric Harding clearly on points he had against the really little -hitting veterans, however, in the first round again to the floor, which allows an adverse inference about his slave capabilities. With this victory, he had been working as far as in the WBC rankings, that he should compete in an elimination bout against Stipe Drews in December 2006. On October 11, 2008 Dawson finally boxed against Antonio Tarver, the world champion of the IBF and IBO Association. He won by unanimous decision ( 118-109, 117-110, 117-110 ). On 9 May 2009, there was renewed for a fight against Antonio Tarver. Also this fight won by unanimous Dawson again.

On 7 November 2009, he won against Glen Johnson interime the World Series of WBC Association, but was dethroned on 14 August 2010 by Jean Pascal. On 15 October 2011, he won the WBC belt prematurely against world champion Bernard Hopkins. The referee stopped the fight after 2:48 minutes of the second round, after he had assessed the clinch after a fallen and injured on the shoulder Hopkins as no longer able to fight. The team of Hopkins put successfully appeal against this decision. The WBC Association decided five days after the controversial vote of Los Angeles, that the fight is to be regarded as a technical draw and gave Hopkins the championship belt back.

However, Dawson won the rematch on April 28, 2012 over 12 rounds on points and became the new WBC champion. In September 2012, he was defeated in a title unification bout in California, the undefeated WBA champion Andre Ward early in the tenth round. In June 2013 he lost early in the first round against Adonis Stevenson.
