Controversies

On 25 March 2011 Kebzabo Saleh, the president of the National Union for Democracy and Renewal announced that a coalition of political parties has decided to suspend its participation in the Election Commission. Fifteen members of the Electoral Commission, who belonged to opposition parties withdrew from the Commission because they found the electoral process credible.

After the Chadian Electoral Code at least two-thirds of the 31 members of the Commission are necessary in order to be able to work. With the departure of 15 members, therefore, the necessary quorum was not reached.

Boycott

The principal opposition politician Saleh Kebzabo, Wadal Abdelkader Kamougue, and Ngarléjy Yorongar announced that they were boycotting the "election circus " and urged voters to equal this. Before, they had demanded electoral reforms such as the granting of new election identification cards. They also criticized the unfair conditions that had led to the defeat of the opposition in the parliamentary elections in Chad in 2011 and said a " historic swindle " in the presidential election ahead.

Election process

There were reports that polling stations N'Djamena opened very late, as election material and election officials arrived late.
