Chai Buri District

Amphoe Chai Buri ( Thai: อำเภอ ชัย บุรี ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the south of the province of Surat Thani. The Surat Thani Province is located in the southern region of Thailand.

Geography

The neighboring Amphoe Amphoe Phrasaeng are in the north and east, Amphoe Khao Phanom (Krabi province ) in the south and Plai Phraya Amphoe ( also Krabi) in the west.

The main water resource is the Khlong Thorom ( คลอง โต รม ), which flows through the district from south to north.

At the border of Amphoe Plai Phraya the game reserve Khlong Phraya lies ( " Khlong Phraya Wildlife Sanctuary ").

History

The county Chai Buri was on June 5, 1981 as a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) was established by the Tambon Song Phraek and Chai Buri were separated from Amphoe Phrasaeng. The name Chai Buri was chosen in honor of the first administrative officials of Phrasaeng Khun Chai Buri.

The sub-district began its work on 10 September 1981 initially served as an office Viharn at Wat Suwan Samai, Tambon Song Phraek. The first head of the subdistrict was Wisut Tansutthiwanit. In 1983, the Interior Ministry selected two plots of land for the new administration building, one in Tambon Song Phraek and one at Tambon Chai Buri. However, since the first land tended to be flooded and it was not in the center of the district, was selected on the recommendation of Napha Kanchonkirana, the head of the subdistrict, the second lot. In July 1984, the new administration building was inaugurated.

On 4 July 1994, the sub-district officially received the full Amphoe status.

Management

The Amphoe Chai Buri is divided into four subdistricts ( tambon), which in turn have together 37 municipalities ( Muban ).

Each of the tambon is of an administrative organization ( " Tambon Administrative Organization" - TAO, Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ) managed.
