Chaiyo District

Amphoe Chaiyo ( Thai อำเภอ ไชโย ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the eastern part of the province of Ang Thong. The Ang Thong province is located in the central region of Thailand.

Geography

Neighboring districts (from north clockwise): Amphoe Phrom Buri Province Singburi, Amphoe Tha Wung and the Mueang Lopburi Province Lop Buri, Amphoe Ban Phraek and the Maha Council of the province of Ayutthaya, Amphoe Mueang Ang Thong finally and Pho Thong Province Ang Thong.

History

The name Ban Chaiyo goes back to King Naresuan and his brother, the future King Ekathotsarot. They won a battle here against the king of Lan Na and the Burmese soldiers. The fighters of Ayutthaya called Chaiyo to celebrate the victory.

In the past Amphoe Chaiyo was called " Amphoe Ban Makham ". As Chaiyo officially got the Amphoe status, the government chose the name Chaiyo because it was a " Big Name".

Attractions

  • Wat Chaiyo Worawihan, a royal temple of the second class from the time of King Mongkut (Rama IV ). Worth seeing is the big Buddha statue named Phra Maha Phuttha Phim. The temple is also known ( Phra Phim ) are produced that here very potent charms.

Management

The Amphoe Chaiyo is divided into nine municipalities ( tambon), which in turn in 56 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

There are two small towns ( thesaban tambon) within the district:

  • Ket Chaiyo covers the complete tambon Chaiyo.
  • Chon Rong Khe includes the Tambon Chon Khe Rong, Chai Phum, Lak Fa Cha Wai, tri Narong and parts of Chai Rit,

There are also three - Tambon administrative organizations ( " Tambon Administrative Organizations" - TAO, Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ).
