Chaka Fattah

Chaka Fattah ( born November 21, 1956 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American politician. Since 1995 he represents the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Chaka Fattah was born Arthur Davenport. His mother changed his name after marrying an African-American civil rights activists. He attended Overbrook High School and the Community College of Philadelphia. Until 1986 he attended various courses at the University of Pennsylvania. In the meantime, he studied at Harvard University, both belonging to John F. Kennedy School of Government. In 1980 and 1981 he worked for the city council of Philadelphia. He belonged to the Department of Planning and urban development. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. Between 1982 and 1988 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Then he sat from 1988 to 1994 in the state Senate.

In the congressional elections of 1994, Fattah was in the second electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Lucien E. Blackwell on January 3, 1995. After the previous eight elections he can exercise his mandate in Congress today. In his time as a congressman of the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan fell. Fattah is a member of the Appropriations Committee and two subcommittees.

Chaka Fattah is married for the second time and has four children.
