Naming

During the reign of King Nang Klao (Rama III. ) His two predecessors were known as the "First King " and " Middle Kingdom ". However, in this way he would have been the " Last King ", which was a bad sign of course and was therefore not used. So he gave them posthumously the names from the list above, he called himself " Nangklao ".

The name " Rama " was first introduced by King Vajiravudh, but his successor, rejected this again. Thus, although the name was never officially confirmed, he is ubiquitous in Thailand.

Viceroys

Until 1885, every king had a Uparat ( " Viceroy " or " Second King "). Usually this was the king's brother and heir to the throne at the same time - but was King Rama II the only former Uparat, who also came to the throne. If the Uparat died before the king, his office often remained unoccupied for years. King Chulalongkorn finally abolished this office after his Uparat Bovorn Vichaicharn died. He told his eldest son crown prince, not the vice - king.
