Chaldean Catholic Patriarchate of Babylon

The Patriarchate of Babylon is the church organization of the Chaldean Catholic Church. It continues the ancient Church Catholicos of Seleucia- Ctesiphon.

The Patriarchate of Babylon represents approximately 63 %, which is about 203,000 members, the largest Christian church in Iraq dar. seat and diocese of the patriarch is Baghdad, present incumbent (since 2013) Louis Raphael I. Sako.

Worldwide, the Chaldean Catholic Church today approximately 600,000 believers among 23 bishops. Of the approximately 200 priests act about half in Iraq, 20 serve the approximately 160,000 Catholic Chaldeans in the two dioceses of the United States. Approximately 18,000 live in France. The ( pastorally and financially ) different location in home and diaspora manifests itself in certain tensions within the church hierarchy.
