Chalybes

The Chalybes ( Χάλυβες, Χάλυβοι ) was a famous for its metal processing tribe, which by Greek traditions, the invention of the hardenable iron is attributed in antiquity. The name comes from " Chalybs " = hardened iron steel.

They settled in the north-eastern Anatolian Mountains and on the south coast of the Black Sea. Their settlement area extends west of the Halys, eastwards to Pharnakeia and Trapezus, south to Armenia.
