Chama is a small town in Rio Arriba County in the U.S. state of New Mexico. It is located on the eponymous river Rio Chama. The city had in 2000, according to Statistics Authority 1199 inhabitants.

Once the city was a hub within a large narrow gauge railway network through the Rocky Mountains. Today, there are only the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad to Antonito (Colorado), which was rescued after the closure of the route network of railway enthusiasts as a museum railway with a length of 103 kilometers.
