The genus dwarf gorse is made within the tribe Genisteae in the subtribe Genistinae, along with Laburnum, Cytisophyllum, Cytisus, Ulex and Genista. There are around 40 species of which 35 occur in Europe. The genus was first described by Johann Heinrich Friedrich Link 1831 in the manual to identify the nutzbarsten and most abundant crops. The native species in Central Europe are:

  • Purple dwarf gorse ( Chamaecytisus purpureus ( Scop. ) Link ) in Carinthia and Tyrol, in addition in the Southern Alps and the Dinaric Mountains.
  • Austrian dwarf gorse ( Chamaecytisus austriacus (L.) Link ) in the Pannonian region
  • Regensburg dwarf gorse ( Chamaecytisus ratisbonensis ( Schaeff. ) Rothm. )
  • Head - dwarf gorse ( Chamaecytisus supinus (L.) Link )
  • Rauhaariger dwarf gorse ( Chamaecytisus hirsutus (L.) Link )

Other types:

  • Sprossender dwarf gorse ( Chamaecytisus prolifer ( L. f ) link) - Canarian endemic
