Chamblon

Chamblon is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Chamblon is located at 519 m above sea level. M., 2.5 km west of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The village is located on a promontory on the east side of the insulated on the northern edge of the hill Orbeebene Mont de Chamblon, a scenic location about 90 m above the plain and the Lake of Neuchâtel.

Population

With 550 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) Chamblon one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 91.8 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 5.1 % and 1.6 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Chamblon amounted in 1850 to 172 residents in 1900 to 137 inhabitants. History

Attractions

The Castle of Chamblon on the eastern edge of the village was built in the second half of the 18th century. From 1931 to 1960 it served as a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients, then it was converted into a geriatric hospital for the chronically ill. Through various extensions and appending new building in 1989, the castle was given its present shape. Chamblon belongs to the parish Pittet, but since 1932 has a chapel at the village entrance.
