Chamole

Chamole is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chamole is located on 545 m above sea level. M., above Poligny, about 23 km northeast of the town of Lons -le- Saunier (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the western part of the plateau Caledonia (first Jura plateau ), north of the valley of Vaux ( Culée de Vaux ).

History

The territory of Chamole was already inhabited during the Gallo- Roman period. First mentioned is the place in the 13th century. In June 1638 defeated Duke Charles of Lorraine, who commanded the Spanish troops, the French Army under Henri II d' Orleans, Duke of Longueville. Together with the Franche -Comté Chamole came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions
