Champion was a German car brand that has been successively produced by different manufacturers in different locations.

Company History

Gear Factory Friedrichshafen AG

The company based in Friedrichshafen in 1946 worked under the direction of Chief Engineer Albert Maier to develop a small car. After the production of three or five prototypes everything was handed over to Hermann Holbein.

Hermann Holbein vehicle

The racing driver Hermann Holbein took over from the gear factory Friedrichshafen AG to develop a small car. Series production began in November 1949 in Mr. Lingen and ended in November 1950.

Champion automotive GmbH

Founded by Benteler International AG and the Hermann Holbein vehicle, this company produced from December 1950 to October 1952 in Paderborn.

Rheinische automobile factory, Hennenhöfer & Co. OHG

This company from Ludwigshafen took over the production and placed between December 1952 and November 1953 automobiles in America.

Rheinische automobile factory, Henning Thorndal

Henning Thorndal produced at the same place between mid- 1954 and November 1954.

The end of the brand name Champion

Maico from Pfäffingen took over in June 1955 for about 300,000 Mark all rights, assemblies, tools and stocks and continued production under its own brand name on.
