Champoux

Champoux is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Champoux is on 345 m, about 14 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon on an inclined towards the south slope at the foot of La Grande Côte.

The area of ​​2.98 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by a hill that slopes down to the south and southeast to the wide valley of Marchaux. The municipal area extends from the foot of the slope up to the ridge of the Grande Côte, which forms an anticline in geological- tectonic point of view and is oriented according to the strike direction of the Jura Mountains in the southwest-northeast. With 517 m is achieved on the back of the Bois de la Cote Chazot the highest elevation of Champoux.

Neighboring communities of Champoux are Venise in the northwest, Chaudefontaine in the east and in the south Marchaux.

History

Champoux is first mentioned at the beginning of the 12th century. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to Châtillon- rule Guyotte. Together with the Franche -Comté it came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.

Population

With 90 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Champoux is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range between 40 and 60 people, a population growth was recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Champoux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the agglomeration Besançon their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. However, it is within easy reach of Marchaux and Chaudefontaine on the secondary road D486 which leads from Besancon to Rougemont. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 3 km.
