Champtauroz

Champtauroz is a municipality in the district Broye Vully the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Champtauroz is located on 692 m above sea level. M., 13 km southwest of the district main town Payerne ( straight line ). The scattered village extends on a spur on the western flank of the Petite Glane, in Molassehügelland the northern Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​3.1 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the hill country between Lake Neuchâtel and the Broyetal. The eastern part of the municipality is occupied by the valley of the upper Petite Glane. Also, the Bois de la Chaux still belongs to Champtauroz. To the south is the 712 m high hill forest Gransou. To the west of the municipality floor extends over the height of the Haut du Mont ( 728 m above sea level. M. ) up to the upper reaches of the Ruisseau des Vaux (tributary of Mentue ). The highest point of Champtauroz is 731 m above sea level. M. on the Bois du Mont north of the village reached. From the municipality surface 1997 6 % came from settlements, 19 % of forest and woody plants and 75 % to agriculture.

To Champtauroz include the hamlet of Le Pontet ( 657 m above sea level. M. ) in the valley of the Petite Glane and some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Champtauroz are Démoret, Chêne- Pâquier, Chavannes -le- Chêne, Treytorrens (Payerne ) and Valbroye in the Canton of Vaud and the exclave Vuissens the canton of Fribourg.

Population

With 120 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) Champtauroz one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 95.0% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 3.0 % and 1.0 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Champtauroz amounted in 1850 to 216 residents in 1900 to 187 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1980 by another 50 % to 95 persons, a slight increase in population was observed again since then.

Economy

Champtauroz was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and cattle breeding have an important role in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. The village is home to a dairy.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares on a road from Prahins after Murist. By bus, driving a round trip through the hinterland of Estavayer -le- Lac, Champtauroz is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1228 under the name Chantuoro. Later, the names Chanteurre ( 1437) and Chantouroz published ( 1453). The origin of the place name is not known.

In the Middle Ages Champtauroz was part of the reign of Saint -Martin- du- Chêne, 1338 it came to the Priory Lutry. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick Moudon. After the collapse of the ancien régime Champtauroz belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was initially allocated to the District Moudon, 1803 came to the district of Payerne.

Attractions

Since 1228 a church is attested in Champtauroz. This was in 1840 converted into a school that has since closed. As a replacement, a new church was built at the southwest entrance to the village in 1900. A 1787 originating village oven was restored in 1987. In Champtauroz some characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
