Chanae District

Amphoe Chanae ( Thai: อำเภอ จะ แนะ ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the southern province of Narathiwat. The Narathiwat province is located southeast of the southern region of Thailand, at the border to Malaysia.

Etymology

Chanae is the Malay name of a local type of Colocasia.

Geography

Adjacent counties and regions are (from west clockwise): Amphoe Betong and the Than To Yala province, the Amphoe Sisakhon, Ra Ngae and Sukhirin Narathiwat province as well as the state of Kelantan of Malaysia.

History

Chanae was July 15, 1983 initially as a sub-district ( King Amphoe ) was established by the Tambon Dusongyo and Chanae from Amphoe Ra Ngae were separated. 1 January 1988 Chanae got officially the full Amphoe status.

Management

Amphoe Chanae is divided into four subdistricts ( tambon), which continued in 29 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

There are also four " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
