Chancellor of the North German Confederation

The Office of the Chancellor of the North German Confederation was established with its founding on July 1, 1867 and lasted only until the Empire on 1./18. January 1871 on. Sole owner of the Office was Otto von Bismarck.

With the proclamation of the German Emperor on 18 January, the North German Confederation ended, however, not yet formally directly. Rather, this was a " German Confederation " to the entry into force of the constitution on. Therefore, Bismarck was until April 16, 1871 still Chancellor.

The Chancellor of the North German Confederation was the Prussian king, who held the presidency as federal, and directed the executive. In addition, his powers were very similar to those of the Chancellor of the German Empire ( since 1871 ).
