Chanchamayo Province
Chanchamayo is one of nine provinces in the Junín region of Peru.
The province is named after one of its major rivers, the Río Chanchamayo, whose headwaters are located in the Andes mountain range and the northward flowing towards the Amazon lowlands and there is the Río PERENE.
Population
The province has a population of about 145 846 inhabitants ( January 2003) on an area of 4723 km ², which corresponds to a population density of 30 inhabitants per km ².
Structure
The province is divided into districts Chanchamayo, PERENE, Pichanaqui, San Luis de Shuaro, San Ramon and Vitoc.
The provincial capital is La Merced.
Economy
The Chanchamoyo province is famous for its cultivation of high-quality coffees.
