Chancia

Chancia is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Chancia situated at 300 m above sea level. M., about ten kilometers north of the city Oyonnax (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the valley of Bienne below their breakdown by the Maissiat anticline at the northern edge of the lake Lac de Coiselet.

The area of ​​2.41 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The boundaries of the area to the west by the Ain, the south by the Lac de Coiselet and the course of the river Bienne. Previously led the Bienne below the village in the Ain, while the whole floodplain is flooded by the Lac de Coiselet today. History

It is first mentioned in the 12th century Chancia. In the course of time the village belonged successively to the dominions Vouglans, Boutavent and Bouchoux. Together with the Franche -Comté Chancia came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 234 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Chancia one of the small towns in the Jura. During the second half of the 20th century, the population had different variations, where they always hovered in the range of 100 people. To a population increase occurred since about 1990.

Economy and infrastructure

Chancia was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by the agriculture and forestry through the village. The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Dortan after Orgelet. Further road links exist with Thoirette, Condes and Montcusel. The nearest links to the motorway A404 ( Saint -Martin- du- Frêne - Oyonnax ) is located at a distance of around 10 km.
