Chantilly Forest

The forest of Chantilly (French: Forêt de Chantilly) is a forest area about 36 km north of Paris 6344 hectares covered. It extends across the two departments of Oise and Val -d'Oise. In the area of the forest are 15 municipalities.

Since the Middle Ages the area was among the possessions of the lords of Chantilly. Since 1897 it is owned by the Institut de France and is under protection. The forest is managed by the National Forestry Office. It consists to 48 % of oak, 12% of Scots pines and 9% of beech trees.

Parts of the forest are part of the Natura 2000 network in order to protect rare and endangered habitats of birds. At the same time, there are six buildings in forest conservation. As before, hunts take place in the forest, it is also used for the training of racehorses. Together with the forest of Halatte and the forest of Ermenonville it forms the three- forests massif.
