Chaos Communication Congress

The Chaos Communication Congress is a multi-day, that takes place in Germany meeting of the international hacker scene, which is hosted and organized by the Chaos Computer Club (CCC). The conference will focus on in numerous lectures and workshops technical and sociopolitical topics. Recently (2013 ) had the congress over 9,000 visitors.

The event takes place regularly since 1984 at the end of the year. As a firm date for the period had been established from 27 to 29 December for a long time. With the 2005 vintage this tradition was extended by one day until December 30 to equalize the overflowing event schedule.

History

After the Congress in Eidelstedter town house in Hamburg had become too large, he moved to Berlin in 1998 to house Köllnischen Park and since then has been up to 4,235 participants. From 2003 to 2011, the Congress was held at the Berlin Congress Centre on Alexanderplatz. 2012, the venue was moved to the Congress Center Hamburg ( CCH). In December 2013 visit over 9,000 participants to Congress. This increased interest has been attributed to the Global surveillance and espionage affair and the publications Edward Snowden.

The Congress is committed to the lowest possible admission prices - especially to enable young people to participate. 2011 the cost of a ticket for the whole congress duration of 80 euros, for people under 18 years 25 €. A lot of the speakers recruited from the scene itself, and the organizational field work is done by volunteers who are referred to CCC jargon as an angel.

Part of Congress is the hack center, a large area in which about 600 people with their technology at the congress are present. The hack center and other areas of the event are connected via a broadband connection to the Internet. However, the CCC attaches importance to the finding that it is not a LAN party in the hack center, but a "hands -on" laboratory for joint exploration and testing of network technology. With the move to the Congress Centrum Hamburg in 2012 the hack center has been extended to so-called " Assemblies", could serve demarcated areas outside the lecture halls, the various social groups and projects as a presentation surface.

From 1997 to 2004, the German Championship was held simultaneously in Lockpicking during the Congress.

Congress mottos and Venues 1984 to today

The Chaos Communication Congress is almost a year under a motto, usually in relation to important issues of the previous or next year.

Since the Chaos Communication Congress 1999, an abbreviation has naturalized. Instead of 16th Chaos Communication Congress 16C3, the term was used. The official spelling of the Chaos Communication Congress 2004 thus reads " 21C3: The Usual Suspects " 21st Chaos Communication Congress. The 20th Congress in 2003, however, formed under the symbol NaN to fit the theme name.
