Chapeiry

Chapeiry is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Chapeiry located at 600 meters above sea level. M., about 10 km southwest of the town of Annecy (air line). The farming village extends a scenic location in the foothills west of the Semnoz, on the high plateau of Albanais, east of the valley of Chéran.

The area of ​​5.76 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Albanais. On three sides (west, south and east ) the area of valleys of the tributaries of the Chéran is framed. Against these troughs the plateau of Chapeiry lowers gradually. To the north, the municipality's area extends over the plateau up to the foot of the altitude Les Lanches. Here is 625 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Chapeiry.

To Chapeiry next to the village itself includes several hamlets settlements and farmsteads, including:

  • Scionda (540 m above sea level. M. ) on an inclined westward slope below the village
  • Vésine (560 m above sea level. M. ) on the southern slopes of the plateau

Neighboring communities of Chapeiry are Marcellaz - Albanais and Montagny- les- Lanches in the north, Seynod in the east, Viuz la Chiésaz and Alby- sur- Chéran in the south and Saint -Sylvestre in the West.

History

In the 16th century it is mentioned as Chappeirie documented. Over time, the name changed over Chapéry and Chapairy to Chapeiry. The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman family names Capparius and means something like estate of Capparius ( Cappariacum ).

Attractions

The village church Saint -Martin was originally developed from a Carolingian church, which was later rebuilt and restored several times. In the pre-Romanesque choir parts are obtained.

Population

With 779 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Chapeiry one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Chapeiry counted 314 inhabitants). Since the early 1970s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded thanks to the beautiful residential area again.

Economy and infrastructure

Chapeiry was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. In addition, there are now several companies of local small businesses. Meanwhile, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area and in the room Annecy their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from the main road N201 that runs from Annecy to Aix -les- Bains. Further road links exist with Montagny- les- Lanches, Marcellaz - Albanais and Alby- sur- Chéran. The nearest links to the A41 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of around 11 km.
