Chappes (Aube)

Chappe is a commune with 292 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Aube department in the Champagne- Ardenne region; it belongs to the district of the canton of Troyes and Bar-sur -Seine.

History

In the year 753 is attested at the site a flour mill. In the Middle Ages Chappe was a significant Seigneurie who passed on their name to one of the most important families of Champagne, the house Chappe, Viscount de Troyes. End of the 14th century Chappe went to the house Aumont.
