Charbel Rouhana

Charbel Rouhana (* 1965 in Aamchit in Byblos, Lebanon ) is a Lebanese oud player and composer.

Life and career

He studied music at the University of St. Esprit in Kaslik and obtained his diploma for playing the oud instrument in 1986 and his master's degree in musicology in 1987. He has developed a new methodology of oud playing. This method was published and adopted by the National Lebanese Conservatory of Music in the Faculty of Music of the University of St. Esprit, where he is a lecturer and since 1986. In the 1980s he was a member along with Marcel Khalife Al - Mayadine ensembles. With Marcel Khalife he played in the Oude duo in the play Jadal, 1995. He plays since 1984 on various national and international festivals.

He also worked as a music composer along with the choreographer of the group Caracalla, Abdul Haleem, the following pieces: "2000 and 2 Nights" (2002), " Elissa - The Queen of Carthage " (1995), " Andalusia - Lost Glory" (1997 ) and " Bleilit Kamar " (1999). He has won numerous national awards, including the title " Hymn of Peace " 1990 in Japan, the first prize in the Hirayama Competition for the best composition as well as the 2000 Murex d'Or as a musician of the year.

According to Charbel -oriental Arabic music stands before a renaissance, which is embodied by traditional instruments and in particular by the Oude and what always stands in relation to traditional singing and classical Arabic instrumental music. Charbel musical writings follow the traditional Arabic instruments in multinational advanced tools to transform that are capable of communicating with other cultures and music, with an emphasis on the Oriental- Arabic style.
