Charenton-le-Pont

Charenton- le -Pont is a commune in the department of Val -de- Marne, in the Ile- de -France region. It is located south of Paris, bordering the metropolis.

The municipality has 29 562 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) and an area of 1.85 km ².

History

As the Brothers of Charity in Charenton settle (May 10, 1645), they aim to build a hospital where the sick poor - among them the mentally ill - should be included. Charenton is no different from the hospitals of the Charité, as they have since the founding of the Order of the Brothers constantly spread in Europe in 1640.

Château de Conflans

One of the main structures within the city was the Château de Conflans, of which today only is the entrance gate. In this castle were married on October 9, 1329 Joan II Queen of Navarre and Philip of Évreux; Johanna died here on October 6, 1349.
