Charibert II.

Charibert II (c. 614; † April 8 632) was 629-632 Merovingian sub- king in Aquitaine ( Toulouse).

Charibert II was a son of the Frankish king Clotaire II and the Bertetrud. After the death of his father, 629/630 the Frankish Empire was not, as previously distributed common among the two sons, but Dagobert I, the older of the two, who was succeeded in the overall realm. Charibert received pressure from the nobility of Neustria and his uncle Brodulf a sub- kingdom in Aquitaine. Dagobert consented, but let it kill Brodulf. In the year 631 Charibert fought in Gascony successfully the Basques. After death Chariberts the lower kingdom was immediately dissolved again because his son Chilperic also died shortly after him. It is believed that both Charibert and his son Chilperic was assassinated on behalf of Scrooge.

Charibert II was buried in the Basilica of Saint- Romain in Blaye on the Gironde.
