Charilaos Vasilakos

Charilaos Vasilakos (Greek Χαρίλαος Βασιλάκος, * 1877 in Tripoli, † December 1, 1969 in Athens ) was a Greek athlete.

Vasilakos took part in the Olympic Games in Athens 1896. In the preceding Panhellenic Games in March you had to choose Greek starter for the Olympic Games in the same year. Vasilakos, known by this time as a good long- distance runner who won the first marathon of history in these Panhellenic Games in a time of 3:18 hours.

In the 1896 summer games Vasilakos was one of the 17 starters in the marathon field. He was behind Spyridon Louis second with a time of 3:06 hours. Only nine competitors finished the race.

At the 1906 Summer Olympics in Athens, he was walking over 1500 m fifth.

After his career as an athlete was Vasilakos customs officer in Athens, where he also died in 1969.
