Charix

Charix is a commune in the French department of Ain, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Charix is located on 780 m above sea level. M., about nine kilometers south of the city Oyonnax (air line). The farming village extends in the Haut- Bugey, in the Jura, on a reflowed from the source stream of the Lac de Sylans spur on the eastern foot of Mont Burdet, north of the deep cluse de Nantua.

The area of ​​18.27 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the southern French Jura. The southern boundary runs in the area of cluse de Nantua with the Lac de Sylans. It forms a transverse valley, stretching from Nantua to the catchment area of ​​the Valserine by the chains of the high Jura.

Neighboring communities of Charix are Oyonnax in the north, Échallon, Plagne and Saint- Germain- de -Joux in the east, Lalleyriat, Le Poizat and Les Neyrolles in the south and Nantua and Apremont in the West.

History

It is first mentioned in the 12th century Charix as a basic property of the monastery Nantua. In the 13th century, the village became part of the dominion of the Thoire -Villars and came up with this 1402 under the suzerainty of the Counts of Savoy. The Treaty of Lyon Charix arrived in 1601 to France.

Attractions

The village church of Charix was re- built on the site of a previous medieval building in the 19th century. Among the natural attractions include Lac Genin and its surroundings. The Grotte de la Serra is the longest surveyed cave of the department of Ain. In the cluse de Nantua the A40 motorway is north of Lac de with the Viaduc de Charix, which spans the Charix Valley in an arc in more than 60 m height, and the Viaduc de Sylans, a 1.2 km long backrest viaduct along the slope Sylans.

Population

With 289 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Charix is one of the small communities of the department of Ain. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 469 persons were still counted ), a slight increase in population was recorded since the mid-1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Charix was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises. In a quarry coral limestone is mined. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from Moulin -de- Charix at the Department of Road D1084, which runs from Bellegarde- sur -Valserine after Nantua. Further road links exist with Apremont, Oyonnax and Échallon. The nearest links to the A40 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of about six kilometers.
