Charles A. Barlow

Charles Averill Barlow ( born March 17, 1858 in Cleveland, Ohio; † October 3, 1927 in Bakersfield, California ) was an American politician. Between 1897 and 1899 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles Barlow attended the public schools of his home. In 1875 he moved to Ventura, California. Since 1889 he lived in San Luis Obispo County. Barlow worked as a farmer and businessman. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Populist Party. In 1892 and 1893 he sat as a deputy in the California State Assembly.

In the congressional elections of 1896 Barlow was in the sixth constituency of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of James McLachlan on March 4, 1897. Since he resigned in 1898 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1899. These were shaped by the events of the Spanish-American War. Later, Barlow became a member of the Democratic Party. In the years 1912 and 1920 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Conventions relevant. He died on October 3, 1927 in Bakersfield, where he was also buried.
